The standard of fitness was very high with half of the group staying in until the end of the tape on the bleep test for press-ups and sit-ups in the RMFA (Royal Marines Fitness Assessment). However the group really showed their grit and determination later on the bottom field as they carried out the tests on the infamous Royal Marines Battle Physical Training assault course.
After an hour and a half warm up, which was as vigorous as any of the tests, the finalists then had to complete six point-scoring tasks which included running the assault course, not once but twice, a fireman’s carry (running with someone of the same weight on your shoulders for 150 metres), tyre flipping, full regain (rope crawl where you lower yourself to hang off the rope and then right yourself back on the rope halfway across a huge water tank) and a mud run.
It was arduous work, but with the banter rife and the ZOO man there to hold up the rear on each task, our contestants not only pulled through but managed to record some impressive scores, making the race for the Man of the Year crown as enthralling as this season’s Premier League finale.
